Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso believes that he is still in the championship fight despite facing retirement in the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix held at Suzuka.
Alonso lost some crucial points in the championship battle due to his retirement in the preceding race which was caused by a tyre puncture. Although, he is still at the top of the drivers? standings with 194 points but his lead has reduced to just 4 points after his main rival, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing claimed an incredible victory in the last race.
Nonetheless, the Spaniard has said that he is not feeling upset and is confidently looking forward to score wins in the remaining races of the ongoing season so as to win the championship title.
?I am sure we can be in the fight right down to the wire,? he told Ferrari.com. ?The people who are working on the car are the same who have done the job so far and there's no reason to think they can't do a good job again now.?
In addition, he said that they are planning to make some necessary updates in their car in order to enhance its pace to secure good results in the forthcoming races.
?Let's not forget that, if I am still leading the championship, it's because we have been capable of improving the car significantly compared to the start of the season and also because we are capable of always getting the most out of what we have to work with,? he added.
Furthermore, the technical director of the Scarlet team, Pat Fry has also said that they are feeling positive about the upcoming races and are trying their best to make the substantial developments in their car to make their mark stronger in this year?s championship fight.
It will be important to mention that the two-time world champion has performed incredibly well in the season so far and has proved his potential even with a car which is quite incompetent as compared to the other rivals.
