Sony has announced that it will begin manufacturing the PS3 in Brazil in order to better support its South American customers.

The arrangement will result in a number of localised games and packages in the region, Sony said on the PS Blog, including a 250GB console bundled with God of War: Ascension for $1,099 BRL (about ?350 GBP / $550 USD).

The firm also announced that Naughty Dog's The Last of Us will release fully localised in Brazil, followed by a subtitled version of Grand Theft Auto V later this year.

SCE president Andrew House said manufacturing PS3 in Brazil would benefit local gamers, retailers and developers.

"Sony Computer Entertainment continues to invest in the Brazil game market as part of our long-term commitment to the country and its gamers," he said.

"The local manufacture of PlayStation 3 is expected to infuse the Brazilian economy with approximately $300 million over the next 12 months."
